Cub Scouts is a year-round program that offers fun activities that promote character and leadership development. Our program is designed to be hands-on, and parents are encouraged to play an active role in our programs.

Scouting embraces the outdoors through camping, hiking and water sports. We also focus on helping our communities through service projects, STEM development and building confident kids through our wide range of activities. The Cub Scout program is designed to develop physical, mental and emotional fitness. Fitness includes the body (well-tuned and healthy), the mind (able to think and solve problems), and the emotions (self-control, courage, and self-respect).

Cub Scouts are for youth grades K–5th:

Lions – K

Tigers – 1st Grade

Wolves – 2nd Grade

Bears – 3rd Grade

Webelos – 4th Grade

Arrow of Light (AOL) – 5th Grade

Once your youth joins Pack 15, your Scout will be placed into the appropriate Den according to their grade level. Your Den will meet at least once a month and the Pack will meet once a month through the school year. Your Den will work with your Scout on obtaining the requirements needed for advancement. Pack 15 will charge a fee of $120 to join which helps with costs for BSA annual registration, outings, handbooks, achievement loops/pins, pinewood derby car kit and Class B Pack shirt. Scouts will also be required to purchase a uniform (the shirt, belt, slide, neckerchief and four patches (Mecklenburg County Council, World Crest patch, World Crest ring and Pack numerals) are the only requirement—this can be purchased from the Mecklenburg County Council, Boy Scouts of America and Scout Shop at 1410 E 7th St, Charlotte, NC 28204) for approximately $70. This is considered their Class A uniform.

How Scouting works

The Scouting program is delivered through local civic, faith-based, and educational institutions called chartered organizations, which operate Scouting units to deliver the programs to their youth members, as well as the community at large.

Together, these organizations are run by almost one million adult volunteers dedicated to helping youth learn and grow.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Scouting promotes activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made.

Cub Scouts enjoy outdoor experiences as they participate in the variety of activities such as field trips, hikes, nature and conservation experiences, and outdoor games.

Cub Scouting means “doing” – from camping to hiking to going on field trips or doing projects that help your hometown and the people who live there. In Cub Scouting, children and their families have fun and adventure in a program that builds character and instills values.
